Our Story
An unbroken responsibility, carried for generations

For generations, the Shrotriya Brahman community has carried a single, unbroken responsibility — to preserve the shruti, the heard word of the Vedas, and to place learning at the service of society.
The word Shrotriya itself means one who has mastered the Vedic texts and lives by them. That is not merely our name; it is our duty.
We trace our cultural home to Magadha, the ancient heartland of learning and statecraft in present-day Bihar — the land that the world remembers as the karmabhoomi of Acharya Chanakya and a cradle of India's greatest sages and scholars.

A chequered history
Through invasions, the decline of traditional patronage and the great social changes of independent India, our fortunes rose and fell. What never broke was the thread of learning passed from guru to shishya.
